Crackle mediums have been around for a while but this exciting new development takes it a step further. The kit consists of two parts, either a white or black base (primer) and the XL Crackle paste for the top layer. This two-stage format offers endless controllability and adaptability not previously possible with single-pack crackle mediums.

The primer adheres well to materials such as canvas, wood, styrofoam, plastic, glass or metal. It is not suitable for materials made of silicone. The primer adheres perfectly to the crackle paste and can be pigmented before application.

The XL Crackle Paste is a structural paste for the production of cracks which appear as the paste dries. These cracks are deeper and wider the thicker you apply the XL Crackle Paste, a layer of up to 50 mm thick is possible. This is what makes this crackle paste unique.

Primer application

Apply the base/primer first (white paste). Spread to a uniform thickness, no more than 2mm deep. The base/primer can be pigmented by adding acrylic paints, acrylic ink or resin pigments (no more than 20% addition by weight). Any pigmenting of the base should be done before applying it to the substrate. The primer has excellent adhesion to materials such as canvas, wood, polystyrene, plastic, glass or metals. Not suitable for application to silicone or materials made with silicone content

Paste application

Cover the primer with the XL paste immediately afterwards (beige paste). Apply wet-on-wet, can be spread up to a depth of 50mm. The XL Paste can be coloured by spray painting or painting by brush. This can be done just after application, or after cracks appear. Allow a few hours for cracks to appear, thick sections will take longer (up to 2-3 days) for the cracking process to complete. Apply the XL Paste in thick sections to create deeper and wider cracks. Higher ambient temperatures will speed the cracking process.
